“Portraits have an emotional
connection to the viewer other types of paintings don’t
have. I strive to
create this connection in every one of my portraits. I want to capture
more than the subject’s likeness, I want you to feel that you have
discovered something special about the subject— a bit of their true and
inner beauty. My greatest pleasure in
painting is when the work speaks emotionally not only to me but
others as well. The biggest thrill in
painting portraits is the moment when my subject emerges from the painting
surface
and I am no longer alone with paint and paper.”
Margaret has been creating art for as long as she can remember. Watercolor has been her favorite medium for over 25 years. She discovered she had an affinity for painting portraits when her first child was born and she wished to capture the precious moments of his childhood. She has specialized in watercolor portraiture for over 15 years. All her portraits are created in transparent watercolor. She finds the luminosity and softness of watercolor especially suited to portraiture. Primarily self-taught, she has mastered these properties to bring out the spirit and personality of her subjects, whether human or animal. Her award winning portraits are a result of accurately representing the likeness of the subject and reproducing the spectrum of colors light casts upon them. Her portraits hang in many homes across the country.
Margaret has earned Signature Membership in the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters and the Potomac Valley Watercolorists. She has been appointed by the Bowie City Council to the City of Bowie Arts Committee where she serves as its assistant chairman. Margaret is also the former president of the Guild of Bowie Artists and served as a board member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. The artist lives in her hometown of Bowie, Maryland, with her husband and their two sons.
